The GMT was designed for Pan American Airline pilots and first introduced in 1954. It was the first watch to display 2 time zones at the same time. In 1981 the model designation was changed to 16750 (It had been 1675), and the “Quick Set” feature was added. In 1985 the GMT MASTER II was introduced and the GMT MASTER was than discontinued.
What makes this specific Rolex GMT so unusual and so highly collectible and sought after is that unlike earlier GMT models, this model is fitted with the newer 3075 Cal movement. This movement has a “Quick set Date” feature which the earlier models did not. Also, this specific watch is equipped with the jubilee bracelet and the all black GMT bezel insert. These items had to be specially ordered, as most GMT models came standard with the Oyster bracelet and the “Pepsi” bezel, that is to say that the bezel insert was blue and red in color.
The watch is in superb condition and keeping good time. These rare models are occasionally seen on EBay selling for as much as $5,150.00
