Lang often names his creations with greek words that evoke the essence of the timepiece. In this case the Greek word for dolphin, "Delphis" evokes the playful arcing leap out of the sea made by dolphins, just as the minute hand playfully leaps each hour.

At the end of each hour, the minute hand jumps dramatically from the 60 to the 0 and the hour indicator also jumps, a function often called a "jump hour", rather than gradually transitioning to the new hour.
